The backbone of American jazz since 1883
With the recent passing of the inimitable Charlie Watts from the Roland Stones, it's really got us thinking about American Made Gretsch Drum Kits. Founded in Brooklyn, New York 1883 by Friedrich Gretsch, the Gretsch name has become synonymous with both drummers and guitarists ever since.
In 2015 the production licensing for Gretsch was purchased from Fender by DW drums and ever since DW have taken over control of their South Carolina Factory. This factory is where all US Custom and Broadkaster kits are born, the very same kits that Charlie played up until his death. The sound and feel of a Gretsch kit was everything to Charlie
“In the era that I learnt to play, this particular make of drums is what everybody loved to use.” “I would see Gretsch drums in adverts with some of my favorite jazz drummers, so then I wanted to play Gretsch.”
These days if you want a Gretsch Broadkaster kit in Australia you need to special order them from the factory in South Carolina, which is precisely what we've done. Behold our gorgeous Cadillac Green Broadkaster in a 20X14" Bass Drum, 12X8" rack tom, 14x14" floor tom and 14X5" snare. Complete with custom insalled mufflers on the bass drum and snare and Gretsch's patended 'silver sealer' on the inside of each shell, this kit is almost too nice to play.
